Hot desks, dedicated desks and day passes in shared workspaces, from members-club lounges to quiet desk floors. We will match you with spaces that fit how you work.
Coworking means renting a desk in a shared workspace rather than a whole office. Members share open-plan areas, kitchens, phone booths and meeting rooms, and pay a monthly membership instead of signing a lease.
Most spaces offer three levels: a day pass for occasional use, a hot desk where you take any free seat, and a dedicated desk that is yours each day, with storage. Many also have small private offices for teams who outgrow the open floor.
Freelancers, start-ups and small teams of up to about six people get the most value, as do remote employees who want a base near home. It is also a low-risk way for larger firms to test a new city.
The trade-off is privacy and noise. If your team takes confidential calls or needs to keep equipment on site, a dedicated desk or small private office is usually worth the extra cost.
Start with how often you will be in. If it is one or two days a week, a day pass or part-time membership is usually cheapest. Three or more days makes a hot desk better value. If you are in every day, keep equipment on site or take a lot of calls, a dedicated desk gives you the same seat, a monitor you can leave set up and lockable storage.
Most coworking spaces also have small private offices for two to ten people, often on the same flexible terms. They cost more per desk than the open floor but give you a door to close, while keeping access to the lounges, events and meeting rooms. It is a common next step for teams that start on hot desks and grow.
Visit at a busy time, such as a Tuesday or Wednesday morning, rather than a quiet Friday afternoon. Check how loud the open floor is, how many phone booths there are and whether people are queuing for them, and how far ahead meeting rooms are booked. Run a speed test on the Wi-Fi.
Then read the membership terms: the notice period, how many meeting room hours are included, whether guests are allowed, whether you get 24/7 access, and whether you can use the address for your business. Many spaces offer a free trial day, which is the best way to see whether the atmosphere suits how you work.
Location matters most: a hot desk in a central London members-club space can cost several times one in a regional city. After that, price depends on the plan (day pass, hot desk or dedicated desk), the quality of the building and amenities such as a gym, café or roof terrace, and how many meeting room hours are included.
Watch for extras that are not in the headline price: meeting rooms beyond your credits, printing, storage lockers, mail handling and guest passes. Compare the monthly total for how you will actually use the space. For two or more people in every day, a small private office can work out similar per head to dedicated desks while giving you more privacy.
Typical monthly membership prices. City-centre and design-led spaces sit at the top of each range.
